Gros Point / Epingle
Gros Point originates from the French word "gros" (pronounced "gross") meaning thick or coarse and "point" referring to the pattern created. Epingle (pronounced "eh-pan-glay") is a type of weave often, but not always, found in velvet featuring uncut or cut loops depending on the pattern that create a distinctive linear texture across the surface. These specialized textiles originated in 18th-century French royal workshops, where master weavers developed techniques for creating dimensional patterns through precise loop heights. Our fabric shop features collections by Brunschwig & Fils and Gaston y Daniela whose gros point and epingle craftsmanship has remarkable durability for home decor.
